Britny Fox Came roaring into the music scene riding the tails of the late 80's L.A. glam explosion, however they fell from glory almost as fast as they came. They owed a lot to Cinderella, both in sound and career guidance.
Britny Fox is an American glam metal band was Formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by Dizzy Dean Davidson (vocals), Billy Childs (bass), Tony Destra (drums) and former Cinderella guitarist Michael Kelly Smith. They named themselves Britny Fox after one of Davidson's Welsh ancestors. Help from hometown friends in Cinderella, and the strength of their demo In America, they quickly secured a major label deal. Tragedy would strike before recording the debut when Tony Destra was killed in a car accident. The band would regroup with former Waysted member Johnny Dee. The debut would go on to sell a million copies, backed by scorching singles such as "Girlschool" and "Long Way To Love." Boys In Heat only managed half the sales of the debut and Dizzy Dean decided to leave and form Blackeyed Susan.
They are best known for their music video "Girlschool" and their Billboard Hot 100 hit "Long Way to Love (#100)". They released a demo titled In America in 1986, which drummer Tony Destra reportedly played on. Their first album Britny Fox (1988) was one of the most successful premieres of the 1988-89 season, selling about one million copies and bringing more than 625,000 fans to their 130+ shows. They also won Metal Edge Magazine's 1988 Reader's Choice Award for Best New Band. After the release of their second album Boys in Heat (1989), original frontman Davidson left the group, and formed the group Blackeyed Susan. He was replaced by Las Vegas native Tommy Paris. Guitarist Zakk Wylde and Poison drummer Rikki Rockett guested on their third album Bite Down Hard (1991).
The rest of the members decided to give the band one more try with vocalist Tommy Paris. The third and final album put up decent numbers, but it was apparent Britny Fox's fifteen minutes were up. When the album had run its course the band broke up for good. Paris and Dee would team up together in 1998 and form the band Uncle Edna, while original singer Dizzy Dean Davidson released a solo album as Jarod Dean.
Smith was previously in an early version of Cinderella. The late drummer Tony Destra also played in both Cinderella and Britny Fox.
Drummer Adam West (ex-Tangier) played for Britny Fox briefly between the time of Tony Destra and Johnny Dee.
Britny Fox had a summer US / European tour in 2007. Michael Kelly Smith and Johnny Dee weren't able to tour. Tommy Krash (guitar) and Greg D'Angelo (former drummer for White Lion) played instead.
