In 1991, the little known band from Canada, Harem Scarem was able to gain some notoriety when 8 songs from their debut album Harem Scarem was predominantly featured in the Canadian teen series Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High's farewell TV movie, School's Out. There were many requests by excited fans for the songs on radio stations throughout Toronto.
Harem Scarem exploded onto the music scene in 1991 with their self-titled debut album. The first album spawned several singles and videos which proceeded to take the band's home country, Canada, by storm. Songs like "Slowly Slipping Away”, "Honestly" and "Hard To Love" were pure gold on the radio and started to create an international following for this new band.
While the world was just starting to find out about Harem Scarem, the release of their second album, “Mood Swings”, brought even more acclaim from fans and critics alike. After 5 more studio albums the band finished its 7 album deal with Warner Music and embarked on a new chapter of releasing records independently.
In the spring of 2002 came “Weight Of The World“ the first album on Frontiers Records, instantly hailed as a classic (Album of the month on Rock Hard magazine in Germany and The disc was a perfect mix of the melodic rock of the first Harem Scarem albums and the more modern rock approach that they adopted throughout the years.
Despite a flurry of releases (which included a live DVD and an early demo collection), the band didn't take much of a break. August 2003 saw the release of “Higher”, followed by the heavier “Overload“ in 2005 and by the more melodic “Human Nature” in 2007 which brought the band to play and perform again in Europe at the Firefest in Notthingham, Uk at the end of the year.
After 20 years of activities, Harem Scarem have however decided to move on to other things.
They have therefore decided to release one final record for themselves and their fans all around the world and titled it “Hope”: a release which marks the final testament to the art and craft of a legendary band in Melodic Hard Rock.
On July 19, 2007, lead singer Harry Hess announced that Harem Scarem "will make one more studio record and then after 20 years we have decided to move on to other things".
According to the NEH records website, the final album will be released in July 2008 and will be entitled Hope.
